A Closer Look at Brazos Valley Cares: Mission, Vision & Momentum

Across the seven counties that make up the Brazos Valley, one volunteer-led nonprofit is quietly – but powerfully – transforming the lives of local veterans and their families. Brazos Valley Cares (BVC) exists for one reason: to invest in those who have bravely served our country.

Founded on a passion for patriotism and community service, BVC believes that veterans are not victims – they are leaders, neighbors, and an essential part of the strength that makes the Brazos Valley special. The organization’s mission is clear: to support veterans in times of need through emergency assistance, grant funding, and events that build connection and pride.

Investing in Veterans, Building a Stronger Community

Brazos Valley Cares offers direct emergency financial assistance through its 24/7 veteran hotline, ensuring no veteran is left without help when it’s needed most. From covering utility bills to helping with rent, groceries, or unexpected expenses, BVC stands in the gap for veterans and their families facing temporary hardship.

But the impact doesn’t stop there. BVC also distributes tens of thousands of dollars annually through organizational grants to trusted Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) across the region. By supporting groups like Aggie Shields, the Veteran Resource Center at Texas A&M, and Wreaths Across America, BVC multiplies its reach and strengthens the entire veteran support ecosystem in Brazos Valley.

Volunteer-Led and Community-Funded

What sets Brazos Valley Cares apart is its commitment to stewardship. With no paid staff and a fully volunteer Board of Directors, every dollar donated goes directly toward its mission. This ensures donors, sponsors, and partners can trust their support is making a real difference.

Since its founding, BVC has invested over $1.5 million in veteran support – a figure made possible only by the generosity of this region’s community and businesses.

Events That Unite, Inspire, and Drive Change

One of the cornerstones of BVC’s momentum is its flagship event: Steak Your Support. Held annually in Bryan, this high-energy fundraiser celebrates veterans through an unforgettable evening of steak, whiskey, cigars, live music, and powerful community spirit. It’s more than just a good time – it’s an opportunity to come together and make a tangible difference.

From Caldwell to College Station and Hearne to Navasota, supporters gather each year to enjoy the event while making a lasting impact in the lives of local heroes. If you haven’t attended before, this is the year to change that.

As BVC looks toward the future, one thing is clear: this is more than a nonprofit – it’s a movement. A movement that honors service with action and backs gratitude with tangible support.
